Thomas Emery Sr., Emery Oleochemicals' founder, started a tallow and candle business in 1840 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. A decade later, The Emery Candle Company offered customers sturdier, whiter, dripless candles made of stearic acid. Soon, the expanded product line also included elaine oil (oleic acid) and sweetwater (glycerine).

By 1872, the company was involved in fatty acid exploration while growing an existing product line that included elaine oil (oleic acid) and sweetwater (glycerine). Click here to learn more about our rich and innovative history.
