Net-Zero Transition Q4/2024
The Net-Zero Transition Committee was set up in 2024 to represent a proactive and strategic signal to ensure that the petrochemical industry is not left behind in the global push towards sustainability. It is made up of a dedicated group of industry leaders, experts, and innovators committed to driving decarbonization and sustainable practices across the entire petrochemical value chain. With a focus on actionable outcomes and industry collaboration, the committee has set up its work pillars and is now actively getting down to work.
Last months and next steps
Over the coming months, the committee will start by mapping existing work on carbon reporting and mass-balancing efforts in the petrochemical industry. The end result will be a compendium of ongoing initiatives, highlighting objectives, scope, methodologies, and how EPCA members can engage with each initiative. The hope is that this will facilitate members' understanding and involvement in carbon management initiatives.
In addition to this, the committee has established a second work pillar that will draft a landscape of the key technological trends coming in the next 10-20 years, assessing their viability, stage of development, and acceptance level, with the hope that this would help guide particularly smaller EPCA members in creating their own climate roadmap. This landscaping exercise could then allow the group to prioritise the needs of the industry, and maybe in the future look into cooperating with organisations such as Cefic to use the report to help gain awareness and public or governmental support for the necessary development.
Stay tuned for updates on our progress and ways you can get involved. Together, we can make the net-zero transition not just a goal but a reality for the petrochemical industry!
