2011 International Year of Chemistry EPCA Creates a Bridge Between the Chemical Industry and the Academic World

In its sustained efforts to support the 2011 International Year of Chemistry (IYC) and to celebrate its 45th anniversary, EPCA will hold a students workshop at its Annual Meeting that will take place in Berlin from 1 to 5 October 2011. Students from around the world, representing 10 European countries, Brazil, India, Russia, the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia will be given the opportunity to participate in the EPCA Annual Meeting business sessions, networking and social activities. Moreover they will meet with former EPCA Presidents, Honorary Board members as well as with young high profile professionals within the chemical and the logistics industries. The students have been selected based on the excellent results of their participation in the IChO (International Chemistry Olympiad) in 2009 or regional contests. With this initiative EPCA creates the platform where industry and the university students can meet and exchange ideas on key industry issues and potential career paths within the chemical and logistics industries. EPCA has been an active supporter to IYC by being a global partner with the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry). Jointly the three parties made the film “Chemistry : All About You” that is being distributed through their respective worldwide networks and via the social media. Students who will participate in the EPCA workshop in Berlin will further act as ambassadors of the IYC by promoting chemistry and the IYC film in their respective networks.
